Joined with an Iron Chain the Algonkian World in the Heart of New Netherlands (1637-1660)

Presenter Drew Shuptar-Rayvis, cultural ambassador of the Pocomoke Nation will compare and contrast Dutch relations with the Iroquoians and Algonkians north and west of the New Netherlands Colony. Trade, material culture and the life ways of Algonkian people will be contrasted with the Dutch as well as the Haudenosaunee. This program will explore the complicated and intertwined politics of the Algonkian/Iroquoian people and the Dutch and other Europeans of the period. Finally, this program will also give a general overview of the Dutch/Algonkian wars of the 1640's-1660's and how those conflicts shaped the waning future of New Netherlands colony and the course of colonial conflicts and affairs in later periods.
