Genesee Valley Greenway State Park
Enjoy the Genesee Valley Greenway on two wheels! These themed programs explore stone-dust surfaced sections of trail, stopping often at scenic overlooks. Must bring your own bike and helmet. These rides will meet every other Thursday in July and August. Wear a tourist shirt from a city, park, or museum you visited, or wear tie dye clothing. Bring your own bike and helmet. Section sampler group hikes provide carpooling, plus a guide to point out the things you might otherwise miss along the multi-use trail. Bring snacks. On Sept. 1, 1840, a huge celebration marked the opening of this first major section of the Genesee Valley Canal. Retrace the route a celebrating canal boat took that day from Mount Morris to Piffard. Instead of a canal boat on the prism, you'll go by bike on the grassy trail, there and back. Bring a picnic dinner. Bring your own bike, helmet and picnic dinner. Explore the area of former Onödowá'ga': (Seneca, Haudenosaunee) reservations near the Genesee Valley Greenway on this annual 6-month adventure series. On each outing, we tell the story of a Seneca town from pre-European contact through the American Revolution, the construction of the Genesee Valley Canal, and the present day. Learn where to go for much more on present-day Seneca arts and culture. On this final outing, we explore Caneadea, a significant town, original site of the Council House now preserved at Letchworth State Park, and present day site of Seneca cultural activities as part of Caneadea Field Day every summer.
