Meet at Arryl Lawn, Free! Cosby Gibson and Tom Staudle are award-winning singer songwriters from the Adirondacks. The folk duo has been delighting audiences for over fifteen years with their guitar, fiddle, banjo, dulcimer, and harmonica melodies. Cosby is twice Grammy-balloted and has been awarded the Best Folk Album from the Capital District Original Music Awards; Best Folk Album, Outstanding Folk Artist, and Outstanding Music Video from Dorn Space Arts Center; and a nominee for the Thomas Edison Music Awards. Tom's awards include Best Folk Lyrics from the Capital District Original Music Awards; Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Outstanding Americana Artist, and Outstanding Music Performance from Dorn Space Arts Center; Favorite Solo Male Artist from Listen Up Awards, a nominee for the Thomas Edison Music Awards, and a grant recipient of Saratoga Arts for Individual Artists.

Delight in summery sips, nibble on savory sandwiches and sweet confections, sway to live music, and revel in the beauty of our blooming ornamental gardens. This year, it's not just croquet! Clermont State Historic Site showcases games popular during the Revolutionary War. Our annual fundraiser raises money to support Friends of Clermont's ongoing garden restoration work. Your gift is 100% tax-deductible! Children 12 and under are welcome free of charge (just let us know they will be joining you).

Meet at Arryl Lawn, Free! Nancy Donnelly, a Crane School of Music Alumni, is a classically trained jazz and soul vocalist. Nancy further her musical studies in Boston, and eventually settled in New York City, where she performed in many of the city's famous jazz clubs, such as the Blue Note, The Village Gate, Iridium, and Birdland. Her captivating voice effortlessly blends classic jazz and contemporary soul, creating an unforgettable experience for her listeners. The Jazz Journal writes: "Nancy Donnelly is a vocalist well worth getting to know."

Join curatorial assistant Dawson Escott for an overview of American cryptography during and immediately after the Revolutionary war. As the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Clermont resident Robert R. Livingston played a critical role in developing and distributing the codes used by the founding fathers. Attendees can expect to learn about the difficulties of communicating sensitive information during wartime, the advantages and disadvantages of the many different systems which were invented, and even how to use a couple codes and ciphers themselves!

Spend a delightful afternoon at Holcroft, a historic Livingston family home overlooking the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains. Still owned and lovingly cared for by Livingston descendants, this remarkable property will open its doors as our gracious hosts for a truly memorable experience. Sip a selection of wine and other refreshing beverages while enjoying light refreshments. Then, embrace a cherished Livingston family tradition with a friendly game of croquet on the lawn while taking in the breathtaking scenery. Guests will have the rare opportunity to see Clermont's original billiard table, which was relocated to Holcroft a century ago. Proceeds from this special event benefit the Friends of Clermont and support the preservation of Clermont State Historic Site. $125 Friends of Clermont members/$150 for nonmembers. Illustrator Heather Rogers filled hundreds of pages doodling her way through presidential biographies. Doing so heightened her curiosity and turned her into an insufferable presidential nerd. She can't get enough of the weird trivia, coincidences, and quirks. Along the way, she encountered many fascinating people who were never president but played important (or interesting) roles in history. Take a walk through her sketchbooks as she shares some of her tidbits, doodles, and observations about a few lesser known figures from the Revolutionary War (plus a Livingston or two). She's not even going to mention George Washington or John Adams. OK, she probably will. But join us anyhow! Register here at friendsofclermont.org. Join us for a talk and workshop by Education Assistant Elizabeth Krikelis about the history of the American Landscape as a point of national identity and pride. Explore the changing views of the natural landscape as the Hudson Valley became a center for tourism and the ideal subject matter for many early American artists and authors, including Clermont's very own Montgomery Livingston. Attendees will learn how Montgomery and his many contemporaries found inspiration in the sublime natural scenery of the Hudson Valley, shaped early environmentalism, and ultimately led to the formation of public parks. This program will include a brief talk followed by plein air watercolor painting in front of the mansion, weather dependent. This program is free and open to everyone. Clermont will provide student-grade painting supplies. Attendees are welcome to bring their own supplies.

Join us for a fall-themed story hour in our recently renovated Children's Play Area. Librarian Jane Miller will read a curated selection of story books about the changing of the seasons. Then, the Crafty Kids Crew will help kids create autumnal-inspired woodland animal masks. The Story Hour will begin promptly at 11:00AM with crafts to follow. This event is suitable for kids ages 3 to 8. This is a program for children; all children must be accompanied by an adult and all adults must be accompanied by a child. This event is free, reservations are encouraged.
